The Potomac Clementes were formed in 2013 by Frankel Ramirez (1999 LA Dodgers affiliate, Pioneer League). “Frankie” selected the team name to honor Roberto Clemente, Pittsburgh Pirates right-fielder (1960-1972), 12-time Gold Glove winner, league MVP, and the first player from the Caribbean and Latin America to win a World Series. Most of all, Mr. Clemente was a great humanitarian who gave his life seeking to help people in need.
The Clementes played 11 seasons in the Industrial Baseball League, winning seven championships. Looking to compete at the highest level of men’s open baseball, the team joined the 10-team DC Wood Baseball League in 2025. In their rookie year, the Clementes went 12W – 14L – 1T and made it to the second round of the post-season tournament. In 2026, the team won 30 games and lost in the post-season tournament to the eventual league champion.
